The Plains of Castelluccio are a karstic and alluvial plateau of the Umbro-Marchigiano Apennines.
Located at about 1,350 m above sea level, there are three Plains that cover an area of 15 km²: the Pian Grande (province of Perugia), the Pian Piccolo (province of Perugia) and the Pian Perduto (province of Macerata, in the Marche Region).
They are marked by karst phenomena, with the formation of karst structures known by local residents as Mergani, which are deep sinkholes in the main plain and drain rainwater into groundwater aquifers, which also bring water to the rivers Sordo and Torbidone, of the plain of Santa Scolastica.
The Pian Grande, which extends for about 7 km with an average width of 3 km and an altitude ranging from 1300 to 1252 m, is the second-largest karstic plateau in Italy, after the Piana del Fucino, and is entirely surrounded by the ridges of the Sibillini Mountains.
What makes the Plains famous is the Flowering which, starting in May and continuing into June and July, colours the whole area with poppies, cornflowers, daisies and lentils (the lentil is one of the most appreciated gastronomic excellences in the area).
The plateau takes on splashes of colour from the spontaneous flowering: the whole area of the Mergani and beyond is filled with many kinds of wildflowers. Nature is the artist here, every year renewing the existing species.
Then the flowering of the cultivated fields or of the hills begins according to the sowing period: the plants that live in symbiosis with the lentil develop with their own distinct times and change continuously their colours.
The Pian Perduto as well as part of the high and low hills are also sown every year: just continue past the village of Castelluccio in the direction of Visso and you will enter another world of incredible colours. Given the many paths that wind through this area you can really enjoy the beauty of this incredible natural show, a perfect setting for a walk, a picnic or a photo shoot.
Castelluccio and its plateau are the perfect shelter for mountain lovers: in addition to air sports, from hang-gliding to paragliding, you can enjoy many outdoor activities, both for experts and beginners, such as trekking, Nordic walking, biking and horseback riding.
Tempietto del Clitunno
https://www.umbriatourism.it/en_US/-/tempietto-sul-clitunno-campello-sul-clitunno?p=/ancient-history&t=Ancient%20history
The Tempietto del Clitunno—in the shape of a small Temple of the kind the Romans called sacellum—is located in Pissignano, under Campello sul Clitunno Municipality, along the slope of Colle San Benedetto, which dominates the Spoleto Valley.
Considered one of the most interesting early-medieval monuments of Umbria, it is one of the seven jewels of Longobard art and architecture in Italy, which were recently included in the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage list.
Among the most attractive elements of the visit to this place is its evocative location, already described by Pliny the Younger as a place covered by "old cypress trees, a spring gushes out, which, breaking up into different and unequal streams, forms itself, after several windings, into a large, broad basin of water".
The construction, which was built with re-used architectural elements of ancient Roman times, and probably with remnants of a pre-existing Sanctuary structure dedicated to a deity called Clitumnus (identified with Jupiter), has the form of a small Classical Temple: it stands on a high podium with a frontal Corinthian colonnade of four columns—pronao tetrastilo—supporting the entablature where there is an inscription dedicating the church to the "God of the Angels".
Inside, entered by climbing two sets of stairs, there is the apse with a complex decoration where a relief sculpture—originally with polychrome decoration—and frescos—with Christian themes depicting Christ Pantocrator, Saints Peter and Paul and the Angels with the gem decorated cross—dated from the 8th century A.D. join together. The small aedicule-tabernacle circumscribed by the apse is made of re-used sculptured elements of the 1st century A.D.
Believed to have long been a Roman sacellum, the Temple has been the subject of a number of interpretations concerning its phases of construction. A first dating theory sees it built as a church, between the 4th and 5th century A.D., dedicated to San Salvatore. Recent studies, however, have enabled scholars to attribute the building to the Longobard era, dating it to between the early 7th and well into the 8th century.

Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta
06041 Ponte, Province of Perugia, Italy
The Church of St. Mary of the Assumption is an example of Romanesque sacred building with an architectural layout unusual for Umbria, with a unique apsidal aisle with a protruding transept, the dome cladding and the dome at the junction of the arms. A small aisle along the right wall is annexed to this main core.
The facade, on a non-original horizontal end, is embellished with a rose window sculpted and decorated with mosaic elements, evangelical symbols and, in the bottom, two telamons. The portal, provided with concentric recesses and a ring, preserves in the lunette remains of a Madonna and Angels, a fresco of the 14th century. The apse is decorated externally with hanging archlets supported by pro-thrones, columns and semi columns.
The exterior masonry is an example of a well-kept Romanesque stonework. However, the most peculiar feature of this building is the “rose window design” incised in the brickwork of the right internal wall, near the entrance. The right chapel hosts frescoes of Evangelists (in the vault), Christ at Calvary (in the lunette), Christ in the garden and St. Michael (sub-arch), of the 16th century. The apse presents a Nativity of the 16th century and a Mystical Marriage of St. Catherine, dated 1519; above on the sides there is a fresco of the early 14th century depicting Angels. On the left transept there is a fresco of the Madonna and Saint of the 16th century. Up on the left wall there is a detached fresco of the 15th century representing a Crucifix and Saints, a Saint and St. Augustine of the 15th century; and Our Lady of the Rosary of the 17th century.
The remains of the artistic heritage of this parish church (once rich and important) are two wooden Madonnas of the 14th century, a canvas of a Deposition (derived from Daniele da Volterra) and the surviving parts of the fresco decoration (in a poor state of conservation). A big Roman monolithic cup made of basalt is used as baptismal font. A Madonna enthroned with Angels and Saints, a wide fragment of an antependium is an artwork made by an unidentified Umbrian in the early 14th century known as the Master of Cesi (preserved in the Diocesan collection of Spoleto).

CAOS archaeological Museum
Via Campofregoso, 98 - 05100 Terni
Today it occupies the spaces on the ground floor once used for factory warehouses. The Museum is divided into two sections and tells the story of the city and its territory through a path of 17 rooms, enriched by graphic reconstructions and panels in double language with detailed analysis.
The pre-Roman section contains funerary objects from the 10th and 6th centuries. BC from the local population, the Nahartes from Umbria, coming from different nuclei of necropolis (Acciaierie, San Pietro in Campo and former Poligrafico Alterocca). There are also finds from settlements dating back to the 4th century. BC (settlements in Maratta Bassa, in the urban area between Piazza Clai and the former Palazzo Sanità and in the area adjacent to the Roman amphitheater) and from the cult area of Monte Torre Maggiore, a precious testimony to the sacredness of the ancient Umbrian populations and considered a religious center of the territory.
The Roman section is dedicated to the illustration of city life in Roman times (from the beginning of the 1st century BC) and late antiquity. The museum begins with the famous epigraph of Faustus Titius Liberalis, an important source for establishing the date of foundation of the city of Interamna Nahars and continues with the most significant documents of the history of the city, its urban development and aspects of municipal life, from religious sphere to the social structuring up to the funerary uses.

The Baths of Cerreto di Spoleto Spa, formerly known as "Triponzo's Baths", are located in Umbria in the heart of Nera Valley and are waiting to offer you a pleasant well-being experience.
Ancient Baths of Triponzo
“Its therapeutic efficacy has already been proven by a sufficient amount of clinical data to deserve the trust of lovers of this healthy art”.
This is how some historic publications attest to the ancient origins and benefits of the thermal water of Triponzo.
The hot springs of Cerreto di Spoleto, known probably since the Roman era (its most famous reference is in Virgil’s Aeneid), were mentioned in 1488, when, already functioning, they were transferred to the Norcia Municipality for 151 gold florins and thereafter to Pasquale Forti and to the Bishop of Norcia Bucchi - Accica, who donated them to the Cerreto District.
Today, the Ancient Baths of Triponzo recently returned to be usable after over 30 years, by using those same waters, containing sulphur and other elements including magnesium, having health effects on the body and the mind.
It is the only spa complex in Umbria supplied with sulphurous water rich in calcium that, regardless of the season, maintains a constant temperature of 30 degrees C (86 degrees F) with considerable therapeutic qualities.
The hot springs are entirely immersed in the green Umbrian woods: 18 sources of sulphurous thermal water, emerald green in colour, flow out in this place.
The water starts in the Park of Sibillini Mountains: drops gather after each rainfall, some of them flow into rivers and creeks, others follow a route that takes them deep, into contact with porous rocks, which absorb the water.
This causes the water to acquire dissolved solids of the rock, and warming to the temperatuer of hte depths of the Earth.
After a long rest in the dark depths of the Valnerina, the sulphurous water emerges into the light, with a colour suggesting shades of green and blue, result its enriched content of calcium and sulphates.
The sulphurous water of the Triponzo Baths is indicated for osteoarticular inflammations and for its anti-inflammatory effect on skin diseases such as eczemas, acne, dermatitis, because sulphur is a bacteriostatic and the natural peeling derived from bathing purifies and renews the dermis. The health effects of the sulphurous thermal waters of the Ancient Baths of Triponzo have been traditionally recognized and are still today very much appreciated.
Surrounded by centuries-old oaks, nestled in the Valnerina mountains, you can enjoy the pleasure of a warm sulphurous soak, relaxing in the murmur of the waters.

Todihttps://www.comune.todi.pg.it/it/page/museo-civico-e-pinacoteca
Civic Museum and Art Gallery
The Todi museum, reorganized and reopened to the public in 1997, is housed on the top floor of the Palaces of the Podestà and of the Captain of the People.
The path inside it initially includes a visit to the Museum of the city which constitutes the historical memory of the tuderte territory and in which they wanted to retrace its events through materials and objects that illustrate some moments of particular importance. Among the works exhibited here we recall the valuable marble slab dating back to the century. X - XI and representing S. Fortunato, the Cristo Redentore and S. Cassiano, the wooden model of the temple of Consolation dating back perhaps to 1571 and attributed to Ventura Vitoni, and the saddle of Anita Garibaldi.
The five typological sections follow.
In the first, the Archaeological site , bearing witness to the close commercial ties between Todi and the nearby Volsinii (Orvieto), we find some Attic ceramics with red and black figures, some objects used for domestic use or for feminine ornamentation, and the architectural terracottas among which stand out the female head antefixes that still retain traces of the original color. The showcase dedicated to votive bronzes documents the presence of one of the oldest manifestations of artistic craftsmanship.
The second section, the Numismatic one ,includes pre-Roman, Greek, Roman republican and imperial coins, ostrogoth, Byzantine, medieval and modern, for a total of 1475 specimens. For the history of the city the most important set? the one made up of 130 pieces attributable to Tuder's mint.
In the third section, that of the Fabrics , are exhibited sacred vestments and handicrafts of various ages and origins, of considerable interest for the valuable quality of the materials.
The fourth section, dedicated to Ceramics, includes crockery, mainly in common use, which goes from the VIII century. to the XVIII century and that it was produced in different environments. Of particular interest is the room in which this section is hosted. The decoration was performed at various times, from the early 1600s to 1900: the portraits of the illustrious men of Todi and the fresco of the city and its territory, works of the tuderte Pier Paolo Sensini, correspond to the first phase. Between 1719 and 1721 Ignazio Mei, a painter from Fabriano, painted along the walls the legend of the founding of the city and the entrance into it of the emperor Trajan, which some voices wanted originally from Todi.
Finally we find the Pinacoteca, in which one can admire the altarpiece by Giovanni di Pietro, known as Spain (one of the most important disciples of Perugino) with the coronation of the Virgin. An entire section is occupied by the works of the Romagna Ferraù Fenzoni, known as il Faenzone (1562 - 1645), an artist known for having worked in Rome on commission from Pope Sixtus V and called to Todi by bishop Angelo Cesi.
